i m an indian and i didnt like this movie... ii dont just understand why this gets so much hyped all of a sudden i dont blame globes and the oscars,,,, they are just meant for being given to different and definitely not the best Believe it or not, there are good things in India.
I applaud Amitabh Bachan for speaking out against the depiction of the country in this film. Every nation, every race, every people have good and bad aspects. Theres poverty and corruption, hate, racism and disease in every nation. That does not mean we should dwell on those aspects and just ignore all the good they have to offer. Movies like the Godfather, the Kite Runner, and Braveheart depicted both the good and the bad of the cultures they represented. But when it comes to India, wheres the good? I'm so sick of the common western impression of India. Its always portrayed in that negative, degrading type of way i rmemebr some scottish ppl PROTESTING against the movie `TRAINSPOTTING` IN which they beleived scottish were depicted wrongly in edinburgh regarding drugs
where r the 1 billion ppl when it comes to manipulation by the westerners
At best SLM is an obscene exhibition of slum relalities packaged just right to make a digestible masala flick for audience who would/can pay money to watch drudgery....
as an indian i debar any westerner who tried to portray my country in any manipulative way for money/fame/recognition
the positives include a r rehman`s effort and actors especially dev patel and junior ones
my rating----- 3/10
