PADAM AWARDS ----- just another HONOUR now????

THE padam awards which include padam bhushan, padam vibhushan and padam shri --- are highly prestigious civilian awards given by government of India.

A glance at how names for the awards are short-listed:

  • Thousands of recommendation from state governments, Union Territory administrations, central ministries, individuals, organisations, even self-recommendations, are placed before the Awards Committee for consideration.
  • The recommendations of the Awards Committee, which comprises eminent personalities from different fields, are submitted to the home minister and then to the President's office for approval.
  • After the President's office approves the lists, it travels to the prime minister's office for final scrutiny before they are announced on the eve of Republic Day.

  • FOREMOST CRITERION FOR THIS AWARD IS PUBLIC SERVICE,,,,,,,,
OK??? SO HERE IS WAT I WAS THINKING
THIS YEAR THESE ARE GIVEN TO AISHWARYA RAI AND AKSHAY KUMAR AMONG OTHERS
WHEREAS INDIA`S OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDALISTS VIJENDER KUMAR AND SUSHIL KUMAR WERE  NOT EVEN CONSIDERED.,,,,,,,,,,,,
    WELL WELL WELL........
CONSIDERING INDIA`S RECORD IN OLYMPICS AND LEVEL OF QUALITY IN INDIAN ATHLETES RELATIVE TO THE SO CALLED DEVELOPED COUNTRIES---- ISN'T THIS A HUGE ACHIEVEMENT,,,, AREN'T THOSE BRONZE MEDALS EQUIVALENT TO GOLD ,,,,,,,,,,,
AND WELL,,,,, PUBLIC SERVICE,,,,,,, THESE TWO ATHLETES ARE FROM RURAL AREAS IN HARYANA----  SEEING THESE TWO PREVAIL ON THE HIGHEST LEVEL,,, IT`LL ENCOURAGE AND INSPIRE  PEOPLE FROM THESE SMALL AREAS TO COME FORWARD-- IS IT LESS A PUBLIC SERVICE ?????

DOESN'T IT RAISE A QUESTION INSIDE SOMEWHERE,,,,,,,???????
I DON'T THINK AKSHAY`S HUGE SUCCESS OVER THE FEW PAST YEARS  OR AISHWARYA`S INTERNATIONAL ACCLAIM MAKES THEM AN AUTOMATIC CANDIDATE FOR SUCH HONOURS ????

    Have the awards become irrelevant?

    SATELLITE IMAGE-------CAPITAL CROWD

More than one million people gathered in the US capital to see Barack Obama sworn in
    as America's 44th president.
The event was captured by the Earth-imaging satellite GeoEye-1 which took these pictures of
     from an altitude of 423 miles (680 km). The picture on the left was taken in December and shows an empty National Mall;
To the right you can see
the vast swarms of people who turned out to see the inauguration
i`ve put arrows for convenience ........
    ,,,,,,
I HEARD A STORY IN CHILDHOOD WHEN SOME GUY USE TO PLAY SOME
     PIPE  AND ALL THE RATS
     USED TO FOLLOW.........
OBAMA SURELY HAS AN INSTRUMENT OF HIS OWN....

    slumdog millionaire`s my review

i m an indian and i didnt like this movie... ii dont just understand why this gets so much hyped all of a sudden i dont blame globes and the oscars,,,, they are just meant for being given to different and definitely not the best Believe it or not, there are good things in India.
I applaud Amitabh Bachan for speaking out against the depiction of the country in this film. Every nation, every race, every people have good and bad aspects. Theres poverty and corruption, hate, racism and disease in every nation. That does not mean we should dwell on those aspects and just ignore all the good they have to offer. Movies like the Godfather, the Kite Runner, and Braveheart depicted both the good and the bad of the cultures they represented. But when it comes to India, wheres the good? I'm so sick of the common western impression of India. Its always portrayed in that negative, degrading type of way i rmemebr some scottish ppl PROTESTING against the movie `TRAINSPOTTING` IN which they beleived scottish were depicted wrongly in edinburgh regarding drugs
where r the 1 billion ppl when it comes to manipulation by the westerners
At best SLM is an obscene exhibition of slum relalities packaged just right to make a digestible masala flick for audience who would/can pay money to watch drudgery....
as an indian i debar any westerner who tried to portray my country in any manipulative way for money/fame/recognition
the positives include a r rehman`s effort and  actors especially dev patel and junior ones
    my rating-----      3/10
